The railway line running through Kibera in Nairobi… an active railway line, by the way. The last time I shot this scene several years ago, I remember feeling completely overwhelmed by the scale of the need and the seeming impossibility of the task we’re involved with through the E3 Initiative (formerly EngageHIV).
When I stopped here again to shoot this yesterday though, my heart was filled with hope after seeing the impact of several years of sustained work by my friends and coworkers in Kibera and beyond in Nairobi partnering with EngageHIV.
It’s a long road… but we are headed towards hope here. And looking back, I can see just how far the work has come. A journey that isn’t measured in distance, but in lives saved, communities empowered and hope restored.
My friends and coworkers we partner with here have made that journey happen… I’m just honoured to be able to join the train.
